Toast Box

If Starbucks is THE coffee shop in America, then I would say Toast Box is THE coffe shop here in Singapore (setting aside TCC that is). Whenever I'm on the A.M. shift, my breakfast composes of either orange marmalade toast, kaya toast or peanut butter toast with Teh and sometimes Kopi from toast box. It makes my morning lightly full and goddamn awake! The kick of their teh and kopi i must say comes with a punch. So if you need a major caffeine intake in the morning, go to toast box. Everything is relatively cheap compared to TCC and STB.

If you're planning to go there, below definition of drinks (applies to all coffee shops here in SG) might come in handy (Singaporeans, pls feel free to correct me if im wrong):

kopi - dark coffee with condensed milk and sugar
teh - tea with condensed milk and sugar (cold/hot)
teh c - tea with evaporated milk and sugar (cold/hot)
teh o - just tea with no nothing
kopi o - just dark coffee with no nothing

Where i learned all these? From local colleagues of course. Meanwhile here's a picture of their huge mountain of butter!

Toast Box

There are some terms that you need to used if you want your teh and kopi to have more or less sugar or less water but they are all in Mandarin so my reliable memory can't remember them anymore. Can anyone help?

Sunday is picnic day...

...for Filipinas here in Singapore.

On our way to the Botanical Garden last Sunday, we saw a flock of Filipinas with big plastic and paper bags. They all seemed to be heading to a place. Since i had my new toy with me, we pretended to be a paparazzi. We followed them. And these are what we saw:

with their packed lunch
out of curiosity we followed them

they were having sinigang na bangus and adobo
Lunch Sunday Picnic

the place was located at the back of WISMA Atria. It wasn't a park but every Sunday it becomes one
they seemed to be enjoying Picnics at the back of WISMA

food republic in wisma

Yesterday before going to the Botanical Garden, boyps and I decided to have our Sunday lunch at Food Republic in WISMA Atria instead of Lucky Plaza because it was so crowded.

Whenever we eat at Food Republic, we always order for two of our favorite Singapore food- Hokkien Mee and Chicken Rice. As expected, Seargent Hainanese Chicken did not fail to satisfy me. It's still the best cheap chicken rice in Singapore. As for the Hokkien Mee, it was a disappointment. Why oh why did it taste that bad?

So if you guys want to try Hokkien Mee, i wouldn't recommend Food Republic in Wisma Atria. Go to the other branches like Suntec City or Vivo City instead.

To ma, with love

This song has been in my playlist for a long time now. I never really had a chance to check out the lyrics until tonight. I loved the melody but now i love its meaning more. Ma, this is for you:

give it all back

You’re my hood, my motherhood
that I wear above all else
You’re my oldest guilt, my wall, my source
My greatest weakness and my force
You will never cease to be
my superiour directory
Someone upon whom it all depends
My mother and my most peculiar friend

chorus:
And I’ll give it all back to you
I’ll give it all back to you
All your unconditional love
I’ll give it all back to you

I love you in the deepest way
and I see your good and bad
The girlish smile you still posess
Your smartness and your passionate ways
At times like someone strange to me
and yet my oldest memory
Someone upon whom it all depends
My mother and my most peculiar friend
(repeat chorus)

The way you stay the way you are
gives me a home
a home for my soul

weirdness, roasted chicken, milkmaid

Tonight we're having Honey Glazed Lemon Roast Chicken for dinner. It's still in the oven and cooking; smells so good in here. If only i can post the smell here I would. Cooking time is about 2 hours according to the recipe. I'm starving already so while waiting I'm having strawberries with salt as a dip. According to boyps, it's a weird combination. He has never tried it, how would he know? If you love green mangoes with salt and it's not available in your area, then strawberries with salt is a good substitute (Filipinos, specifically Pangasinenses can relate to this).

Boyps eats "Milkmaid sandwich" for breakfast. Who's weird now?

Lucky Plaza

When I came here in Singapore 2 years ago I felt homesick as soon as I arrived. It got worse since I had to stay in a hotel for 2 weeks and the only food that I could afford, at that time, were from hawkers and kopitiams. It's not that the food was bad but the taste was just very different from what I'm used to eat.

No one told me (well that's because i didn't know any Filipinos at that time) that there's this 'Mall for Filipinos' and that they have lots of turoturo stalls, if I may call it, that serves Filipino food at reasonable price of 5 SGD. I only learned about it a month after. I was thrilled. A month without adobo, sinigang or tinola for me like food was like hunger strike. Anyway, the name of mall I'm talking about is Lucky Plaza. It's along side big shopping malls in Orchard. It's not a classy mall like it's neighbors but it's still my second best favorite place here in Singapore. Aside from the eateries, there are also mini-grocery shops in LP (as what we call it) that sells imported Filipino products (it's only here that we can call our own products IMPORTED-naks!). So when we found a permanent place to live in, we excitedly bought cooking tools and bought staple ingredients of Filipino food like toyo, suka, patis, pansigang, bagoong, alamang and started cooking our own food. Then there's the famous noodle junk food  Lucky Me Pancit canton (iba talaga kapag may MSG hahaha).

Now im not that homesick anymore!

Google's Browser

I had just downloaded Google's new browser-Google Chrome Beta version. I will be updating this entry with my own observations (note: i'm not a techie gal so no techie stuffs here) as we go along.

  • After the installation i was prompted to export all my bookmarks from Firefox (or IE)-nice!

Chrome bookmark

  • I tried Ctrl-T to open new tabs and it worked! hmm..

  • I didn't notice any script blocker

  • The design is simple and sleek

Chrome

  • The address bar can also be use in google searching.

  • Simple Menu options with only 3 tabs. Now see the option that has a hip name? It's actually where you can change the proxy settings, manage certificates, cookie settings, and SSL settings. Minor Tweaks tab is where you can change the download location, languages, and password manager.

Options

  • Remember the address bar/ web search, apparently you can change it to the search engine of your choice.  You can even add more through the Manage button.

  • Okay, enough of this. I have to admit, it'll take time to like and get used to Chrome. I was an IE user for a long time but was convinced to switch to FireFox because it kept on crashing on me!

UPDATE: I'm back to using Firefox. Chrome needs a lot of tweaking; it takes time to load pages, upload pictures and download stuffs. I'll check on it again maybe nextime.

DSLR bags (for women only)

I want my own digital SLR. I want to start taking real nice pictures. I'm tired of my point and shoot digicam. The hunt for the REAL thing is becoming stressful especially since I'm still on the "ARE YOU SURE YOU REALLY REALLY WANT ONE?" stage. Is this normal?

Anyways my search for the real thing is not what i want to talk about here. This entry is actually all about the cam's future CRIB. Since I'm a lady, of course I would also want a lady like bag for the 'future' bestfriend. So i googled and found two that suited my taste:

CrumplerRed

CRUMPLER bags. It's sporty and perfect for lightweight traveling. This more likely mella-ttainable. It's not that expensive and most of all it's available here in Singapore.

JILL-E

JILL-E bags. Perfect! Perfect! Its exactly what I was looking for. However, it's only available overseas. Good thing though, I would have bought one despite it being pricey...ayayay!

Now, back to google+camerareviews = arghh!
